Our store on 15 S. 11th Street in Philadelphia is unlike anything else on the East Coast. We are the largest independent music store in the city. Since opening in 1980, Sound of Market has catered to all musical tastes (except Classical), beginning as a vinyl shop and kicking and screaming into the digital age, currently housing close to 100,000 titles on compact disc.
Sound of Market begins on the second floor of our building, where customers can wander through aisles and aisles of R'n'B (old and new!), Gospel (old and new!), CCM, Funk, Disco, Dance, House, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Dub, Soul, Southern Soul, Doo-Wop, etc. We are almost hilariously well-stocked. CD's, LP's, new releases, reissues, imports, box-sets, singles - if it exists WE HAVE IT. You'll also find our famously friendly staff, a lovable motley crew of local DJ's and urban-music-gurus.
Our third floor is an equally astounding collection of titles in Jazz and Rock and Beyond ranging from contemporary commercial releases to the extremely esoteric, comprising all the standard jazz and rock classics and branching out into avenues as diverse as Afro-Cuban, Big Band/Swing, Country, Electronic, Experimental, Folk, Free-Jazz/Avant-Garde, Fusion, Metal, Progressive, Psychedelic/Garage, Punk/Postpunk, Spoken Word, Vocal, World Musics, etc... again, OLD AND NEW. all on disc, all at incredible prices. And the rest of our charming staff.
We also carry DVDs, VHS, cassettes, and all manner of accessories.
This website makes all of these products available to order online. Please call us with any questions about our product. We are careful to avoid reflecting out-of-print or unavailable items on the site, but if anything seems doubtful, just give us a call.
If you're ever in Philly, drop by and check out our awesome store. |
